- 'Gumdrops and Roses' is a short story written by Irish college student, Cian Taaffe, and is a fictional account of one mans struggle with depression. Although, thrown together in under an hour, the story has proven popular with readers and Cian intends to return to the story in the future and make it darker, grittier and longer.
Cian, has been writing fiction since his primary school days and hopes to have some of his work published in the future. Currently, studying English and Irish in UCD, Cian has little time to work on new material, but often writes reviews for the college newspaper and is an active member in the university's creative writing group.

One bit sorta confused me though:
except that they said that if I didn’t they’d send me to an institution. A mental institution and I had seen ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’ and I had a fair idea what these places were like, so I started speaking again.
Couldn't you just have said "mentail institution" the first time around, and then said he'd seen One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?

Except from that, it was really good.
Wooo Great short man. Well written. Only saw one little typo, though some of the paragraphs could use breaking up a little.
