Generally, closed head injuries(Traumatic Brain Injuries) are measured by length of unconsciousness and/or amount of lost memory surrounding the injury. Not every injury is the same though. Some people are more affected than others. There are two aspects of head injury brain damage, focal and diffuse. Focal is the area of impact and diffuse is the aftermath, so to speak. Diffuse damage causes impairments which are subtle, yet can be debilitating. When the head makes impact abruptly, the brain is rammed into that area of the skull that took the impact(this is known as coup). Then when the brain, after getting bunched up on itself, rebounds to the oppostite area in the skull, contra-coup). The front of the skull above the brow, is very sharp and bony and tears the frontal lobes easily. If this happens, there are subtle changes that occur which may include; irritability, impulsivity, poor time management, short attention span, short fuse, over reacting, overemotionality, and others. These are often unnoticed or not attributed to the injury, often attributed to defects in character. This becomes a very frustrating situation not only for the victim but also for the friends and families who have to deal with these changes. Often the victim themselves don't realize the changes. Often the brain produces excuses for the behaviors. Head injury is NEVER to be taken lightly. I was a victim of severe brain injury, which is generally considered to be 1hr or more of unconsciousness. There are measures of consciousness, or unconsciousness which may not be understood by the lay person. Most doctors do not understand head injury themselves. There is an amazing website WWW.GIVEBACKORLANDO.COM which is dedicated to TBI Self Therapy Recovery and is full of the right information, the facts. If you or someone you care about have ever sustained a head injury, you should visit the site. 17% of Americans have sustained severe enough head injuries to have impairments. 8% of all Americans are disabled in some way as a result of these injuries. Only a tiny percentage every get the awareness, treatment or recovery necessary. If you haven't done your homework, you haven't earned the right to criticize victims, and certainly not to diagnose. I'm no expert, I've done a little homework though. Understanding the consequences, admitting to them, and working on them is the key to living a productive and successful life. God bless! And remember ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

Chloë Cordès129 weeks agoThe title 'serious head injury' is quite misleading really.
I assumed someone blugeoned you over the head repeatededly until you suffered a brain haemorgage or something like cracking it open on the floor. But you fell of your bed.
I'm not saying it doesnt deserve sympathy but it sounds quite trivial. A similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago.
I thought the doctors were going to say that you may not pull through!
Im not belittling you because it obviously shook you up but perhaps you should have renamed it 'minor head injury'? -

Sam140 weeks agoi admire u soooooooooooo much

? what exactley is the meaning of this page and where is the story? anyway stop having a sulk ,3 days in hospital be happy u didnt spend 6 months in a rehabilitation clinic having to learn how to walk again and swallow food then still have blurred vision and fall on your face at least 3 times a day, scary when your left arm is paralysed only way to explain the feeling is imagine falling over if you had no arms and then be told your not allowed to do the only thing that means anything to you in the world (ride motocross) not to mention the whole left side of my body was and still is paralysed
by Todd M 53 weeks agowateva im with the amy person 2 reviews down i meen i believe it or wateva but ur making such a giant sulk about like nothing its just a bump on the head!
by Luke 97 weeks agoserious head injury? firstly i am not saying anything hurtful. But if you really think hard bout it, this is NOT nearly a serious head injury!
by Amy 111 weeks agoit is just a bump on the head. Did your brain bleed? was anything fractured? did you have headaches for 1 year afterwards? blurred vision? blood coming out your ears? seizers? that would be serious.
im sorry about what happened to you, but really? "SERIUOS HEAD INJURY" thats a little bit dramatic?!
I hope you made a full recovery, and were not traumatized but the ongoing repercussions of a SERIOUS head injury!

Ouch! That sounds, well i can't find words other than - OUCH! You must really love that your still here today and you weren't perminantly damaged. I can really relate to that because i have a cabin bed next to my door with a metal chair next to them and i play on my door loads and i fall down a lot, but nothing like thats ever happened to me so now - I'LL BE A BIT MORE CAREFUL!!!
